East Anglia is lucky to be blessed with several very rare or scarce breeding species – including Spoonbills, Dartford Warblers and Woodlarks. In 2022 and 2023, we also had breeding Bee-eaters in a local quarry. Our summer tours will focus on looking for these rare breeding birds, as well as providing opportunities to catch up with other iconic local breeding species, such as Marsh Harriers, Avocets and Bearded Tits. There is also a good variety of other wildlife to see at this time of year, and we always see a great selection of different butterflies, dragonflies, etc on these tours.
Spring migration continues even into early June, and the right conditions can bring late falls of migrants. Amongst the Redstarts and flycatchers heading for Scandinavia there could be Icterine or Marsh Warblers, possibly even a Bluethroat or perhaps something even rarer. On previous June tours we have seen exciting species like Red-footed Falcon, Red-backed and Lesser Grey Shrikes, Great Reed Warbler and Rose-coloured Starling.
We will meet either in Hindolveston at 8.00am or Wells-next-the-Sea at 8.30am, depending on where we are heading first, and we will then go off to explore the North Norfolk coast. Transport is in our spacious 9-seat minibus and we will visit several different sites during the course of the day. There is a moderate amount of walking, but it is very slow paced and broken into smaller amounts, with lots of stops to look at birds. We normally finish around 4.30-5.00pm.
The price of the tour is £60 per person.
Prices are based on a minimum of four customers booked per tour. If there are fewer people booked, pricing may have to vary by negotiation or the tour may not be able to proceed as planned.
All transport and guiding on the day to and from the agreed meeting point.
You will need to bring a packed lunch. Reserve entrance fees are not included and we will visit nature reserves such as RSPB Titchwell or NWT Cley Marshes, so please make sure you have any membership cards for organisations like RSPB or Norfolk WT if you are members (a small charge of up to £5 per person is payable on entry for non-members).
If you would like to give a gift to someone who is interested in birds then a gift voucher from The Bird ID Company is an ideal present.
The vouchers can be flexible, and used against any tour or tours over the following 12 months, or can be bought for a specific tour.
