2nd May 2014 – a little Big Day

Share

Another private tour today with guests from Canada, focused on NW Norfolk. We wanted a good introduction to get to grips with the commoner birds and see some more interesting species. Our quest was not helped by a cool NE wind and an overcast and showery start to the day. But it brightened up a bit by the afternoon and we reached about 90 species/sub-species at a gentle pace, with breaks to warm ourselves up!

We managed a good selection of warblers, including Grasshopper Warblers, several Cuckoos, Swift, White Wagtail, and plenty of waders including Greenshank and Common Sandpiper. I think the highlight was Lapwing – which was particularly sought after! Their iridescent plumage shone in the afternoon sunshine; they are particularly stunning birds which we perhaps have a tendency to not look at closely as they are so familiar. And we rounded the day off with a couple of Spoonbills.

Here’s another one from earlier…Image
